IEEE RAS Technical Committee on Algorithms for Planning and Control of Robot Motion

Newsletter November 2007

Dear Committee Members,

In this newsletter:

  1. Workshop Report: You can read a brief report about the Workshop on Algorithmic Motion Planning for Autonomous Robots in Challenging Environments, held at IROS'07 in San Diego, USA. The workshop was extremely engaging and kept participants talking for the rest of the week. It was organized by Lydia Kavraki, Manuela Veloso, and Kostas Bekris. Click here for the report.
  2. New Web Feature: We are launching a new feature of our Web site: the Video Showcase! This page is supposed to showcase new and exciting research in our area and to give outsiders an entertaining opportunity to get exposed to the rapid progress we're making. Check it out and add your own videos! Editing the Wiki is very easy. Just use the password sent to you by email. The video showcase was realized by Claudia Esteves.
  3. Official Business: Nancy Amato represented us at the annual IEEE meeting for all technical committees. Thank you, Nancy! (The meeting was at 7:30am.) You can find her report here.
  4. Steering Committee: We would like to create a Steering Committee for this committee. This steering committee would create, solicit, and edit content for the newsletters, initiate and/or organize the activities of this technical committee. Our expectation is that this job would require three hours of your time per month. If you are interested in participating in the steering committee or would like to sign up, please send email to Oliver.
  5. 20th Thesis Posted! There are now 20 theses available in the Thesis Archive of our Technical Committee. These theses span 16 years of research in algorithms for motion planning and control.

With the best wishes for the Holiday Season!
